Basic Dai Shogi Rules. |
| Key to reading the piece movement
diagrams Enemy pieces are captured by occupation. No two pieces can occupy the same square. Cannibalism is not allowed. O A piece can move onto any square so marked (but not jumping over a piece), capturing any enemy piece on that square. X A piece can jump directly to square so marked and if occupied by an enemy piece, then capture that piece. I A straight line indicates that a piece may move as far as desired along that line if the path is clear to the destination square. (1) this indicates that the piece may move to this square, capturing or not, or to capture a piece on this square without moving! (2) this indicates that the piece can jump directly to this square or to occupy this square having just occupied an adjacent 1 square, thus completing a move. The 1 2 combination always allows a maximum of two king moves (or captures) in on move. Note: From the first 1 square, a Lion can move to any adjacent square, even another 1 square. |
|
The first (and main) group of pieces are identical to those in Chu Shogi. |
